BOARD MEMBERS
Current Board Members:
Doug Allard (President) –
Joyce Silverthorne (1st Vice President) – Joyce is currently the director of the Tribal Education Department of the
Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation,
Montana. She is a great-grandmother who has worked with school systems both
on and off the reservation. She is a certified teacher, administrator, and
has completed coursework for doctorate in education leadership from Gonzaga
University. She has worked with the Salish Kootenai Tribal College, Two
Eagle River School, and was a gubernatorial appointee to the Montana Board
of Public Education for 10 years. The Flathead Reservation is a diverse
community with tribal and non-tribal organization working with youth. She
has worked with several efforts in cross-cultural community building.
Chris Jackson (2nd Vice President) - Chris loves assisting in many community organizations. She is currently employed at Community Bank in Ronan
as the Assistant Vice-President. Many of her efforts have gone to successfully raising funds for many events. Chris also
owns and operates a ranch and has for over 30 years. She is a member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, residing
in Ronan.
Jay Preston, Jr. – Presently Jay is the chairman at Ronan Telephone Company and has worked at RTC since graduating in
Management and Engineering. Jay is also president of the Lake County Community Development Corporation and the Kellogg
Foundation Community Group. He Is an ongoing student of history of the Flathead Reservation, Montana and the United States.
Jay's ongoing interests of support reaches out to areas such as Education, Community Development and Intercultural Community
and Cooperation. Jay has been an active member of the community in many aspects and resides in Charlo, Montana.
Carmen Taylor – Carmen has served as the Executive Director for the National Indian School Board Association (NISBA) for
over 20 years. She has planed and coordinated training and conferences for board members, administrators, teachers, parents,
and other education stakeholders. Currently, she is also working part-time as a Special Assistant to the Vice-President for
Instructional Services and the President at Salish Kootenai College. Carmen has worked on every reauthorization for
Elementary and Secondary Education since 1978. Carmen is an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes
and is also proud of her Oneida heritage. She has one daughter and grandmother of twin girls.
Pam Schneiter – Pam is currently the Director of Human Services at Montana Rail Link. She was born and raised on the reservation and is involved in many different activities, related to education and employment issues. She is willing and able to help with anything that will support Salish Kootenai College. Pam currently serves the Society of Human Resources Management board, is a member of the Advisory Board for the UM College of Technology and has just finished a four year term on the SKC Board. Pam graduated from the University of Montana and has been married for 33 years. Pam has one daughter and two grandchildren.
Linda King – Linda has been an instructor for 23 years throughout the Flathead Reservation. She enjoys dancing at pow wows
and assisting students in creating beautiful dance outfits. Linda was raised in the Mission Valley and graduated from
Polson High School and Salish Kootenai College. She proudly announces that she is a mother and a grandmother living in
Ronan.
Darryl Dupuis - Residing in Polson, MT, Darryl's interests in many community areas. At SKC, Darryl spends most of his time
assisting with the Golf programs and classes. He presently sits on the Montana Board of Parole and Pardons and has been
active with the Salish Kootenai College Board and Foundation for almost 20 years. He also served as the SKC Development
Officer from 1995 - 1999. Darryl has two sons and a daughter-in-law that all teach at SKC. Darryl served on Tribal Council
from 2000 to 2002 and served as the Polson School Principal from 1977 to 1995 after being a public school teacher for
numerous years.
Patty Steven(s) –
Harvey & Joelle Wartosky – Coming from Boston, MA the Wartosky’s are honorary board members. Through generous support from
the couple, SKC has given scholarships to many deserving students. Both work at Lincoln Investment, Harvey as the Vice
President of Institutional Investments. The couple love to travel and have a special interest in music. They have visited
over 100 different countries and have been supportive of Salish Kootenai College’s mission and goals since 1990.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Salish Kootenai College offers a wide array of of scholarships to SKC students. Many of the scholarship are in memory of honored people who have past on. Family members and/or friends may choose to begin a scholarship in their name to honor the person.
Listed are some of the scholarships, with a brief description, that are offered through SKC.
- SKC Foundation Unrestricted - Donations to this account assist the SKC Foundation with special activities, community relations, public events, SKC Alumni projects, the permanent endowment, campus improvements, building development and scholarships.
- Nursing Endowment Fund - Established to assist the SKC Nursing Department with long-term sustainability and economic stability.
- Employee Scholarship Fund - Annual scholarships are awarded to SKC students each year from this account formed by Employee donations.
- Alumni Association Fund - Used for special short term loans.
- Student Book Fund - Set up to assist student who are unable to cover book costs.
- Library Fund - The library account helps with the procurement of special books, videos, collections and the purchase of other resources for the D'Arcy McNickle Library.
- Day Care Fund - Donations to the Day Care Fund provide needed dollars for supplies and other programming costs faced by the SKC Day Care.
- Emergency Loan Fund - Created to help students in times of an emergency, such as, a family death, medical costs, etc. Funds received must be repaid by the student each quarter.
- Disability Services Fund - The dollars raised in this account help the college to better serve those with disabilities.
- Building Fund - Monies in this account help with specific building projects.
- Robert LaFromboise Scholarship Endowment - Named after a prominent Blackfeet tribal member who served all Native people in a variety of many positions for many years.
- Public Television Fund - This fund supports the operation, maintenance and overall costs of running the SKC Public Television. The local affiliate allows the College to access national public television programming and create local programming as well.
- Everett Fyant Memorial Scholarship - In honor of a tribal member who was a Carpentry instructor in the early years of SKC.
- Amy Anderson/Let's Travel Scholarship - A scholarship set up in part by Let's Travel of Ronan and the family of Amy Anderson in her memory. Amy was an employee of the College who was a light to all she knew.
- Native Women Breast Cancer Scholarship - Started by a gift from SKC faculty member Lori (Colomeda) Lambert's publications, the Native Breast Cancer Scholarship is to be an endowed award for students in the health fields.
- Isabel M. McDonald Endowed Scholarship - Established in the memory of SKC President Joe McDonald's mother who devoted many years of her life to a career serving Native Americans.
- Winona Williams Scholarships - This award, created by SKC Nursing Department honors the memory of graduate student Winona Williams whose nursing career was cut short by a tragic car accident.
- Helen D. Hull Memorial Teacher's Scholarship - Named in honor of Helen Hull for her many years of service to education this endowed scholarship is awarded to students pursuing teaching degrees.
- Cornelius Scholarship - To honor the lives of two individuals who worked on behalf of Native Americans for many years.
- Lucille Otter Scholarship - Named in memory of local community activist and tribal member Lucille Otter who worked tirelessly on issues related to Tribal Sovereignty and voter's rights.
- Nursing Endowment Scholarship - Created to build a solid scholarship endowment to assist nursing students in the future.
- Joe Coburn Memorial Scholarship - Joe Coburn was a man who worked on behalf of Native Americans and higher education for many years both at SKC and throughout the community.
- Donna & Buzz Peregoy Scholarship - Honoring the memory of tribal member Donna and her husband Buzz, who both supported the mission of the College and encouraged excellence in those they knew.
- Gordon Bartell Memorial Scholarship - Named in honor of former instructor Gordon Bartell, this scholarship is designated for students studying in the heavy equipment program.
- Richard Oliver Endowment Scholarship - A tribal member who believed in the value of higher education.
- Sisters of Providence Scholarship - Set up as an endowed scholarship by the Sisters of Providence to support the health field.
- Gerald Slater Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is in honor of a past SKC Vice President who spent many years striving for educational excellence. Jerry spent numerous hours working towards building a strong foundation for SKC and ensuring the mission of the College was met on a daily basis.
